People with Disability in North Jakarta Get Skill Training

Jakarta Provincial Government keeps struggling to support people with disability in the city to live better. One of the efforts done is by giving them skill training or entrepreneur training program.

In North Jakarta alone, based on local social sub-department data, there are at least 1,500 people with disability live in the municipality. From that amount, 850 of them are categorized poor and 150 of them are very poor.
Head of North Jakarta Social Sub-Department, Ika Lestari Adji, said those people with disability who live below poverty line are blind people. To support them, her department all this time gives skill training and work capital as stimulus for them.
People with Disabilities Still Discriminated“Due to their disabilities, we deliberately guide them (the disabilities) to entrepreneurship. But, it is also possible to distribute them to companies (that need their skills),” she stated, Wednesday (12/3).
While for people with disability who live in a very poor condition, North Jakarta Social Sub-Department also gives guide aside skill training. Their development is monitored routinely every month and they are also given additional nutrition.
“For those who are very poor we give nutrition every month, such as rice, milk, and sardine,” she told.
Overall there are many programs intended for people with disability. To support those programs, fund as much as Rp 1 billion is disbursed.
